Google geolocation is determined by several factors outside of our control, including:
-
IP address range and type (residential vs. data center)
-
Past usage and reputation of the IP
-
Your browser/device settings
-
Search history and cookies
Because you're using a VPS with a data center IP, Google may not accurately reflect your intended location.
How to Get U.S. Results on Google from a VPS
Here’s how you can force Google to return U.S.–centric results while using your VPS:
1. Use Google’s “No Country Redirect” URL
- Go to https://www.google.com/ncr (“ncr” = No Country Redirect).
- This ensures you stay on google.com instead of being redirected to a localized domain.
2. Add the gl=us Parameter to Your Searches
- Append
&gl=usto any Google search URL. - Example:
https://www.google.com/search?q=netflix+login&gl=us
3. Set Region in Google Search Settings
- Visit https://www.google.com/preferences
- Under “Region Settings,” select “United States” and click Save.
- This setting will persist as long as your cookies are not cleared.
4. Adjust Browser Language/Region
- In your browser settings (Chrome or Firefox), make English (United States) your top language.
- Restart the browser to apply the changes and improve Google’s regional accuracy.
5. Use a U.S.–Based DNS (If Needed)
- Some DNS services (e.g., Google Public DNS at
8.8.8.8) may route traffic through U.S.–based nodes.
6. Clear Cookies or Use Incognito Mode
- Old cookies tied to other regions can affect search results.
- Using an Incognito or Private Browsing window ensures that region and search history do not interfere.
